Grocery delivery offers a simple way to save time on weekly meal planning, but knowing the ropes can also help you save money too. Use the following guide to help find the best deals and keep a little extra in your wallet when you shop for your family's food. 

Discounted Delivery Fees

Typically, grocery stores charge a delivery fee when you order food online. These fees might be charged directly by the store or by a third party providing the actual delivery service. While this extra fee can add to the total of your grocery bill, there are a few ways to enjoy discounts on delivery, including:

• Monthly subscription memberships with zero-dollar delivery fees
• Free delivery on orders above a minimum dollar amount
• Discounted fees for deliveries made during off-peak times
• Discounted fees when you purchase certain brands or items

Digital Coupons

While you won't necessarily be able to use paper coupons when you order groceries online, some retailers do offer digital coupons. When you sign up for your local grocery store's delivery service, look for rewards programs or digital coupon pages where you can click to add discounts to your account. Some stores will even tailor offers specifically to your shopping habits after you've placed a few orders. Remember to do a bit of comparison shopping before you use a digital coupon. In some cases, you can save more by purchasing a different brand of your favorite product. 

Weekly Offers

Don't forget to read through your grocery store's weekly sales circular before ordering your food. If you don't get the newspaper delivered to your door, you may be able to review the circular on the store's website. Some stores even let you click through the circular to add specific items directly to your cart as you read through the week's offers. Take advantage of buy one, get one free deals or sales encouraging you to stock up and save. Even without coupons, you might be able to save a bundle on pantry essentials, frozen foods, fresh produce, and other meal prep essentials. 

Coupon Codes

Before placing your order, take a minute to look for coupon codes valid at the store you are ordering from. You may be able to use coupon codes for first-time grocery delivery purchases, and some stores offer regular discount codes each week. The store's website home page is a great place to look for these codes, but you can also do a quick internet search to see if any other codes are advertised and available. Typically, you'll need to enter the code when you are checking out, so be sure to look for a coupon code box on the checkout order form.
