Sample Packs: The Perfect Coffee Option For B&Bs

by Cathy Fields

If you own and operate a bed and breakfast, one thing you might struggle with is coming up with a suitable coffee option. You might not want the guests to have to come out to the kitchen each time they want a cup. It is often nicer to offer a coffee setup in the room itself, much like a hotel would. However, in doing so, you want to make sure your guests' tastes are satisfied. A good way to do that is with coffee sample packs. Here are some tips to help you implement this coffee setup at your B&B.

Buy 4-option sampler packs

A sampler pack with 10 or 12 different coffees may be overwhelming, and one with only 2 barely offers any options at all. A good happy medium, then, is to offer sampler packs with four different coffees in the pack. Look for ones where the four coffees are pretty distinctly different. For example, a sampler pack with a light roast, a dark roast, a decaffeinated coffee, and a flavored coffee works well. This way, you cover all of the major coffee bases.

Leave one pack per night

If your guests are staying for two nights, leave two sampler packs. If they're staying for three, leave three sampler packs. This way, if there are certain coffees in the pack they prefer to others, they have enough coffee packs to drink just those preferred coffees.

Gather any extras

Some guests may leave the coffees they don't drink behind. Others may bring the rest of the sample packs home with them if they don't drink that at the B&B. If your guests do leave coffee packs behind, don't throw them away. As long as they are unopened, they should be fine. You can gather the incomplete sample packs and put them in a basket that you leave by the kitchen or front door. Make a little sign that says "help yourself" to display by the basket. This way, if any guests want more coffee—or more of a certain coffee—during their stay, they can help themselves. Make sure you put out some creamers and sugar packets, too.

With the tips above, you should have an easy time using 4-coffee sampler packs at your bed and breakfast. Guests will enjoy having their choice between several different coffees, and it also gives you a chance to get rid of the extras as described above.
